The Profound Relief of Being Enough

I wait patiently for the session during which my coaching client whispers, “I am enough”.  It always comes.  It comes after a grueling internal battle between “should be” and “am”, or a sashay down a path littered with limiting beliefs, or a descent down a steep ravine of fear and doubt that eventually leads to a sandy beach.  Some journeys are long and arduous, others seem simple because she has courageously prepared herself for what she is undertaking.  Regardless of how, each client eventually arrives at this place.

I am enough.

The relief she feels in claiming her enoughness brings me to tears every time.  We sit quietly, drinking in the wonder of her discovery.  It’s an enormous feat and we both know it.  I encourage her to say it again.  Louder this time.  Some clients don’t hold back; they shout the words defiantly.

The realization “I am enough” marks a turning point for us wherever we are on our respective paths.  It’s the beginning of truth telling, of settling into our skin.  It’s the taste of freedom we need in order to dream our big dreams.

When we deny that we are enough, we relegate ourselves to being incomplete.  We look for outside validation that we are enough: we seek titles, relationships, bodies and accomplishments that create an external image of success.  Of being enough.  But we know when the image we project and the way we feel inside are out of synch.  We can’t keep up the external front when our hearts don’t support it.

We will never find that sense of completeness in the world around us.  The enoughness is what remains when we silence the voices that tell us what’s missing.  The incredible intact wholeness that is you is always here; it’s just buried in layers that were heaped on while you weren’t paying attention.  Or maybe you heaped them on in order to protect yourself.

Let them come off.

Know your enoughness.  It’s closer than you think, and waiting for you.

As usual, profound and beautifully written. Yes, I love that moment when my clients “get” it, and it moves me every time too.

I was giving a workshop once where it happened in the room, all at once. The shift of energy was almost tangible, and I was suddenly looking at a new group of people. It was one of my most amazing experiences.

And I notice in my self that there are days where I know it, and days I don’t.

I’m glad you do what you do. We all need to be reminded and to know… We Are Enough.

Thank You for the post and the reminder!
