I still don’t understand what life coaching IS. Explain please!
Life coaching is a relationship between client and coach that supports you, the client, on your journey to self-awareness. Within the safety and support of the coaching relationship, we explore your beliefs, fears, habits, hopes and goals so that you can invite and establish the healthy change you are seeking.
In terms of nuts and bolts, our coaching happens as we meet on a regular basis each month, either by phone or via Skype. We begin with an intensive Discovery Session, then move into weekly sessions that are 50 minutes long. You’ll often have homework in the form of exercises and reflection, to deepen our work together. Unlimited email support is available between sessions.
What can I expect from you as my coach?
I will witness you and hold space for whatever you bring forth. I will hold up a mirror so you are free to honestly examine what you’re seeing, and help you voice what it is that comes forth. I’ll celebrate your strengths, remind you to ask for what you truly want, and point out what I hear you saying beneath your words. My style is gentle yet bold, and I rely on my intuition to guide me. I will also offer you tools and techniques to expand on your learning and to make real changes in your life.
Will I cry?
Maybe. Our work will be deep, and may bring about some painful realizations. Chances are, if you’re reading this far into the website, you’re at a point in your life where you’re ready to shake things up. You want to go from something that was to something that is. And there may be some discomfort in getting there. So pack some Kleenex.
PS – We’ll also laugh. A lot.
Is coaching a type of therapy?
Coaching and therapy are similar in that they focus on what lies beneath the surface in your life, but they are not the same. The therapist is trained to point out dysfunction in the client and to look backward as a way of understanding and healing that dysfunction. The coach, on the other hand, sees the client as whole, capable and resourceful — ready to make changes in alignment with their values beginning today.
What if I don’t even know what I want to talk about?
We often find ourselves thrashing around in a sea of busy that keeps us disconnected from ourselves. Coaching is an excellent way to get clear again. In our work together you will break down the barriers to your inner world, remember how to find clarity, and reclaim what it is that makes you feel most alive. From there, all roads are possible.
How long would we work together?
Life coaching is a process of discovery and integration. While it can be very effective for short-term change, deep learning takes time to translate into lasting change. For private coaching I recommend that you commit to a three month investment in yourself, in order to maximize the impact of your learning. Most clients work with me for 3-6 months.
