When I met Abby Kerr on Twitter I thought, now THIS woman has a vocabulary and she knows how to use it.
(Word-girl that I am, I was utterly charmed).
In addition to being uber fantastic in her craft (she’s a brand editor who helps online entrepreneurs free their Voices so they can communicate more powerfully and truthfully), Abby is quite transparent : she is a gorgeous example of how to unfurl in the public eye. Right now her business is evolving in parallel with her own personal evolution (as is true of every single one of us solopreneurs), and she shares with us that shifting landscape. She doesn’t have to do this. She could retreat into her creative cave and work out the kinks, emerging with a new brand identity next fall. But instead, she writes about the process underway – and we see where our own trajectories mirror hers.
For example, here’s a bold statement from a recent blog post:
My brand is in flux.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been here, nor, I’m sure, will it be the last. {You do know that smart, active online brands reiterate in subtle ways every six months to year and a half, and in holistic ways every year and a half to three years?}
In fact, most of us have been here before. It’s not the greatest-feeling spot in the world but it’s the ideal place from which to consider where you and your brand are going next.Here’s what a brand identity crisis looks like in action. How many of these attributes can you identify with?
As you’ll learn in our interview, Abby is getting more okay with what works for her and why. She’s practicing the art of ruthlessly saying No to what doesn’t serve. Her unfurling is about living mainly within her sweet spot, in work and in life.
We all know that doing this is hard, and staying true to it requires conscious commitment. For Abby it means regularly checking in with how it feels to say Yes, and dealing with the aftermath if it doesn’t resonate. She is leaning on her tight inner circle, and taking time away from commitments — creating more alone time, more quiet in her world.
And the upshot is beautiful. Abby is becoming, in her words, a satisfied woman.
Have a listen here (apologies for the audio and visual quality on this one), and tell us in the comments what Abby’s unfurling sparks in you.
Where are you unfurling? What parallels are there in your entrepreneurial and your personal landscapes? What are you claiming right now?
